The Lucke Family Picnics have been held (usually at Valley Stream State Park, on Long Island) starting in 1968. Pictures from each of the Picnics are shown below, with the most recent first. Scroll down to the very bottom for the 1968 pictures.
Picnics were held in these years: 1968, 1978, 1982, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 (at Brien & Victoria Magee’s home in East Rovckaway NY)
We also had a 1st Cousins Gathering (3rd Generation) in 1978 at Ginnie and Ferg’s home in Fairfield CT. Pictures from that gathering are near the bottom.

2016 Lucke Family Picnic
On Sunday, July 31, 61 Lucke Cousins gathered at Valley Stream State Park for the 3rd “revived” Family Picnic. Although the day started out with some rain, it didn’t stop us having another great reunion. Once again, thanks to Brien and Victoria Magee (#10 Margie) for making the arrangements and providing the food.

2015 LUCKE FAMILY PICNIC
On Sunday, August 30, 36 Lucke Cousins , representing four generations, gathered at Valley Stream State Park, NY, for what is now, once again, our ”annual” Picnic! Thanks to Brien and Victoria Magee for obtaining the Park Permit, sending the Evites, buying and preparing the food and drinks.…and so much more. Brien and Victoria also hosted a “pre-Picnic” dinner the night before.
A special treat this year was the arrival of our new-found Cousin, Peg Franco, related to us through #3 Leo’s Wife, Anna Karl. See below.

CONNECTION TO THE LUCKE FAMILY
Contributed by Peg Franco
Mary Karl Lucke (1882-1957), wife of Leo Lucke is the sister of my grandmother “Nellie” (Petronella Karl) Eifler. Nellie and Adam Eifler had 10 children which included Margaret (my Mother) and Raymond (my cousin, Diane’s Father).
While searching online, my cousin, Diane Casella, found the Lucke Family website with the stories and address list. We each selected a different person on that list hoping to make a connection with the Lucke family. Thanks to Diane, we were successful. Mary Agnes Dorney and Bob Campbell called me and we finally met at the 2015 Lucke Family Picnic! How delightful! The Lucke Family was so welcoming that I felt that I had always known everyone – like a true reunion! At the picnic, we shared stories, family charts, and photos.
Here is a brief family tree:
Nellie Karl (1878-1973) married Adam Eifler (1877-1958). Their daughter Margaret (1907- 2000) married John Kingston (1903-2002). Their children: #1 John (1934-1934); #2 Eileen (1935-1986 married Peter O’Connor, they had 2 children and 2 grandchildren; #3 Margaret (Peg) (1938) married Lou Franco (1931-1997), they had 4 children and 6 grandchildren; #4 Vincent (1940) married Eleanor Thornton (deceased), they had 2 children.
At the present time, some of my activities include caring for 2 grandchildren after school, serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and facilitating a Bible study group at Sacred heart Church in Bayside Queens, N.Y, participating in a book club, playing scrabble at the Leisure Club at Sacred Heart Church, swimming when I can at the YMCA, driving everyone crazy with searching the family histories, and doing the usual household stuff. Praise the Lord- Life is Good.

2014 Lucke Family Picnic
On Saturday, August 23rd, 2014, 83 Lucke Cousins gathered at Valley Stream State Park for the revival of the Lucke Family Picnic. For many of us, this was a first meeting and it was a wonderful opportunity to get to know our family.
Most of us travelled from NY or CT but we also had some from MD, PA & RI.
In our Lucke Family Newsletters and on the Website, we use a couple of terms that are important to understand: “branches” and “generations”.
We refer to the “branches of the Lucke Tree by numbering the 13 children of Caspar and Mary Elizabeth Lucke, starting with #1 Mary. 3 of the “branches” were represented at the picnic: #2 Frank, #10 Margie and #11 Anna, with #2’s and #10’s equally divided; one person (Bob Campbell) represented #11.
We refer to Caspar and Elizabeth Lucke as the 1st Generation; their 13 children starting with #1 Mary, are the 2nd Generation; their grandchildren the 3rd, great-grandchildren the 4th, great-great-grandchildren the 5th, great-great-great-grandchildren the 6th Generation. Cousins from the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Generations attended the Picnic. Some “generation” pictures are shown below.
Picnic planning was essentially done by Brien Magee, with capable assistance from his wife Victoria (purchasing, preparing and cooking the food in advance) and Bob Campbell (“back office” stuff like badges and lists). Peggy Smith helped organize the games and activities (corn-hole, potato sack race, 3-legged race etc); Joe Magee and Bobby DeVito assisted Brien at the barbeque grill.
Here is a list of some of the food that Brien and Victoria so lovingly prepared:
- Lunch: hot dogs, hamburgers, heros, baked beans, macaroni salad, pasta salad
- Snacks
- Dinner: grilled chicken, sausage & peppers, pasta w/pesto, corn-on-the cob, green salad
- Dessert: cake & cookies
- Coffee, tea
Plans are already under way for 2015. We expect to see many more Cousins there!
